Join Artists And Musicians For The July 28 Art Walk
– By Sara Penny –
The Final Friday Art Walk on July 28, from 5 to 8 PM., is designed to showcase our local artists and musicians. Artists set up on the lawn at the corner of Center and 100 West and along the sidewalk to the Johnson Center. The Art Walk extends from Artisans Gallery to Stone Path and on to the Southern Utah Museum of Art.
The Cedar City Arts Council coordinates the Final Friday Art Walks, and there is no vendor fee. This is a family event and is free to the public. Thanks to everyone who participates. Art walks continue through September.
Walk to Somewhere is one of the new performing groups. “Writing songs is one of the things that we do to have fun! Our music sounds a little 90’s alternative with a slight bluesy flavor,” said Ashley Wise. “We love hearing other people’s original songs and are enjoying the creative process. We met in high school and have been together ever since! We have six kids, two dogs, and some chickens, and are expecting our first granddaughter in August! Life is a journey!”
Runaway Fire will be at the IG Winery. Band bio thanks to Ian Shaw: “The world has a new original rock and roll band: Runaway Fire is creating waves in the Unisphere with vocal melodies and stylish guitar tones soaring through tube amps so beautiful they may just send a rip tide of audio large enough to shift the weather into a random rainstorm in the desert! Their original songs are rhythmic, percussive, catchy, beautiful, powerful, and easy to sing along with. Featuring the musical talents of Mike Wilson and Marci Allen and anchored by a solid rhythm section, Runaway Fire has combined their decades of experience into creating a fresh, pleasing sound that all audiences will enjoy.”
Other musicians will include Village Voices at the Johnson Center, guitarists at both Artisans and SUMA and a flute ensemble at Stone Path. Returning musicians include Coyote Bluegrass and Roice Nelson.
Many artists, including the Quilt Guild and visual artists, will have displays on the grass by the Leavitt Building at the corner of 100 West Center. The Orchestra of Southern Utah will have season information and tickets available. “The season tickets give you guaranteed seats to the Messiah Concerts,” said Rebekah Gonzales, OSU Manager. You can also join the Arts Council or renew your membership at this location.
The Utah Shakespeare Guild will be having their Christmas in July event on the Plaza at the Southern Utah Museum of Art. SUMA is offering a free art activity for all ages.
Whitney Staheli and Emily Ronquillo will have a pop-up exhibit at Artisans for the July Art Walk. Original prints and paintings, and collage kits will be available.
Come and enjoy the art exhibits and live music on Friday from 5 to 8 PM.
