Southern Utah University’s Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery offers a two-day collage technique workshop exploring the techniques and creativity of collage under the supervision of Jonathan Talbot, a highly-acclaimed collage artist from New York City. The workshop will take place in SUU’s Dolores Eccles Education Building, Room 105, on Sept. 12 and 13 from 9:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
Jonathan Talbot, one of the world’s leading collage artists, will serve as co-curator of “ABC: Assemblage, Book Art, Collage,” a remarkable exhibition at SUU’s Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery in September. During his stay in Cedar City, he will hold a two-day workshop, “Collage Techniques and Creative Exploration.”
Talbot will explore technique and creativity and examine composition, collage without liquid adhesives, paperless transfer or printed and photocopies images, preserving found materials, and creating a personal style.
The artworks of Jonathan Talbot have been exhibited at The National Academy Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. His works have represented the United States overseas in exhibitions sponsored by the State Department and the Smithsonian Institution and are included in museum collections in the United States and Europe. Talbot’s works include oils, watercolors, etchings, collages, and multi-dimensional collage constructions.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, “ABC: Assemblage, Book Art, & Collage” is co-curated by book artist Sue Cotter, Deborah K. Snider, and Jonathan Talbot, who invited artists from across the United States to share their intriguing, inspiring, and creatively provocative work.
The Jonathan Talbot collage workshop fee is $300 and includes all tools and materials as well as a copy of Talbot’s book, “Collage: A New Approach.” To register, please visit Talbot’s website. Space is limited.
