COVID-19 Testing and Accepting Unused PPE
Kane County Hospital in Kanab Utah has announced that testing for COVID-19 is available on site. To get a test you must get a doctor’s order. With the service available at K.C.H., Kanab and Kane County residents do not have to drive the hour or so to either St. George or Page, Arizona.
“We just really want people to know that they can get tested here if they need to.” Kim Nuttall, Human Resource Director for Kane County Hospital said.
If you are experiencing symptoms you should do a quick self-check and then call your doctor. According to the Southwest Public Health website as of April 9, there were three reported cases in Kane County. The first case of COVID-19 in southern Utah was reported on March 22. Testing for COVID-19 in Kanab started a few weeks ago, however, it has taken some time for word to get out. A state hotline had neglected to include Kane County Hospital as an option and was sending people elsewhere.
PPEs now being accepted
Additionally, Kim Nuttall, also stated that the hospital is now accepting donations for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), assuming they are unused. While hopeful they will not need to use donated supplies and equipment, ultimately, if it comes to it they’ll use whatever they have that can protect the hospital workers, should existing supplies run low.
“We are really grateful for community members who are thinking about us and want to help our hospital staff in this way,” Nuttall said.
