Kayenta Arts Academy Provides Pathway To Greatness

– By Dawn McLain –

Kayenta Arts Academy (KAA) is an arts education program for youths aged 9 – 17 that runs June 7–July 2; Mon-Fri 9 AM-3 PM; Four Week Class Session.

After the educational sessions are complete, our youth actors will then participate in rehearsals as they will all be part of a professional acting experience from July 3–10; Times TBD; Tech & Dress Rehearsals.

Post rehearsal, students will perform before a live audience!  We will feature the musical Xanadu July 13-17; MON-SAT 7:30 PM +FRI & SAT 2 PM for 8 shows total.  Students are split into two casts: Red Cast & Blue Cast; each Cast Has 4 Performances.  Please note, due to social distancing, we can only accept the first 60 students this year (though we hope to go to 80 students in 2022).

The camp cost is $350 (cheaper than daycare over the summer!), but no child will be turned away due to financial hardship.  We have scholarships available to anyone in need.  At the same time – feel free to sponsor a few students, we would appreciate the support!

This truly is a tremendous program and the kids just love it and so do the parents!  For many kids, this is a first in a lifetime opportunity to work with professional actors.  Of course, we say first in a lifetime because once the acting bug gets you – you are hooked!

Finally, we have the Festival of the Americas coming up.  This first annual event is a multi-cultural outdoor festival that showcases the cultures of the first peoples of the Americas, all while raising money to support Native American Scholarships to Dixie State University. Promoting secondary education for Native American students will create life-long success for indigenous persons. The family-friendly festival will celebrate the depth and beauty of early American cultures through artisan booths, educational workshops, demonstrations, and performances that feature music, dance, fine art, unique customs, drum circles, and more!  This event will be held May 28-30, 2021.
