Southern Utah will soon play host to all things Scottish as the RedStone Highland Games & Festival invades Sandtown Park, located at 600 N. Bluff St. in St. George. The event will take place April 11-12, and admission is free. The community is invited to come out and enjoy pure Scottish fun for the whole family!

The happenings will include competitive events featuring the brawny men and women of the Utah Heavy Athletics. Strongman and Highland Games competitions will include the stone put, caber toss, Scottish hammer, weight for distance, weight over bar, and the sheaf toss. Strongman competitions will take place Friday evening, from 4 PM to 8 PM, and the Highland Games will happen Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM. Last year’s games broke the state record for the most athletes participating in a UHA competition. This year is gearing up to be just as exciting.

Other components of the event will include live music, with performances by the award-winning Salt Lake Scots Bagpipe Band, as well as the music of Swagger, and the stylings of local Celtic bands Wooden Tantrum and Thistle & Knot. The RedStone Storytellers will share entertaining Scottish lore, and heritage demonstrations will include weapon-making with Wasatch Forge. Attendees can also discover their roots among the Scottish clans and enjoy the “Gathering of the Clans” event.

Peruse unique wares, including handcrafted goods, in the authentic Celtic Marketplace, and enjoy scrumptious goodies from the lineup of food trucks. For the wee ones in the audience, there will be a Children’s Glen with face painting, giant inflatables, and appearances by Her Majesty Mary, Queen of Scots.

There is still time for vendors, clans, and athletes to sign up for the RedStone Highland Games & Festival. Those interested can fill out a form online.
