It has been another very eventful month at The Independent, where we continue to experience growth and the growing pains that come with it. We brought in a new editor, Greta Hyland, with the official title of Copy and Features Editor. Greta comes to us with an awesome and diverse background that includes a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Management. She has experience working for Land Management agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service, as well as experience working for non-profit organizations. She is now tasked with the difficult job of keeping The Independent reporting objective while also continuing to expand its voice and define itself.
Suindependent.com continues to gain traction, audience, and scope…reaching about 70K unique viewers each of the last three months. Just over 40% of the audience in November was from outside the state of Utah with about 5% viewership being international. Who knew?
Our new Sunday Edition, available exclusively as a webpage on SUindependent.com, is by all measures a fantastic success and we look forward to many more awesome Sundays, each week with a fresh set of content including Dallas Hyland’s opinion, a Clay Jones cartoon, our Sunday Hike, Healthy Recipe of the week, and much more.
We’ve also just updated our social media roster to include Vine.co, Google+, and LinkedIn, in addition to Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr and Twitter accounts. Search for SUindependent and follow us on your favorite feeds. Happy reading!
