A fundraiser drag show to benefit Mace Jacobson will take place April 30 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at FireHouse Bar and Grill. The organizers seek participants and donors for the event.
Last year, through the efforts of FireHouse and the local LGBT community, more than $6,000 was raised to help local advocate Linda Stay in her battle against breast cancer.
This year’s drag show will help another area woman dealing with illness. Jacobson is an academic adviser at Dixie State University. She was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. Her son, Matthew, along with FireHouse manager Teresa Skerl and DJ Ballin, have reunited to raise money for Mace’s battle.
“We had such a blast last year raising money for Linda,” Matthew Jacobson said. “We want to bring that same amount of energy to the room again this year for my mom. I think this is a great event that we should have every year, benefiting a new member of our community each time.”
While some drag performers have been lined up, there is still a need for many more. There is also a need for items to be raffled. Each raffle item is announced individually, publicizing the donor business or individual.
“If you’ve never seen a drag show or if you’re a drag show connoisseur, we want to have you in the audience,” Jacobson said. “Or better yet, we’d love to have you strut your stuff on the catwalk! We have such a great atmosphere here in Southern Utah, and we’re privileged to have great people like Teresa and Balint to bring ideas like this to life.”
No experience necessary to participate as a performer. Performers will simply need a song to lip sync to, a drag queen or drag king outfit to wear, and a great attitude to bring to the catwalk. Winners will be crowned at the end of the night.
A $5 donation will get attendees in the door along with a prize drawing ticket in hand. Additional prize tickets are $5 each, or $ 20 for five. VIP tables of five are being sold for $250 for seats right against the catwalk and $200 for tables of four one row away from the catwalk.
Reservations can be placed with Adorjan at (435) 229-9187. Prospective performers can contact Matthew Jacobson at (435) 632-2424. Donations can be made by calling Adorjan or Jacobson. FireHouse Bar and Grill is located at 1476 W. Sunset Blvd. in St. George.
