Dixie State University is presenting “Man of La Mancha” Feb. 26-28 and March 3-7 at the Eccles Mainstage. “Man of La Mancha” is a remarkable show and one of the great theatre successes of our time. This is a play-within-a-play, based on Miguel de Cervantes’ “Don Quixote.” We have a poignant story of a dying old man whose impossible dream takes over his mind.

The songs “It’s All the Same,” “Dulcinea,” “I’m Only Thinking of Him,” “The Impossible Dream,” “I Really Like Him,” and “Little Bird” remain in your thoughts and in your soul well after you see the show. Full of the wonderful emotions that we all yearn for, this play keeps you coming back for more.

“His dream is Everyman’s dream. His tilting at windmills is Everyman’s great adventure, or quest, if you will. Somehow, the footlights disappear, time is telescoped and “Man of La Mancha” speaks for humankind.” (www.tamswhitmark.com)

The original Broadway production began in 1965 and ran for 2,328 performances. Its beautiful music and story won it five Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Scenic Design. The music and story were also nominated for two other Tony Awards in the same year.

The ability of the musical to not only unlock your emotions but your imagination is enough to keep you yearning to watch it over and over again. On top of that, you have one of the best ensembles of DSU students rocking the classic production! DSU Freshman Nathan Myers, who played Dixie High School’s Phantom of the Opera stars as Don Quixote.
