Marsha Holland decides to run for State Representative in District 73
On March 12, Marsha Holland — who is running as an Independent for State Representative in Utah’s District 73 — gathered the remaining signatures required for her name to appear on the ballot.
Holland has lived in Tropic, a small town in Garfield County, with her husband, John, for over 18 years. Marsha works with Bryce Valley Schools in the winter. During the visitor season, Marsha and John are outfitter guides who lead commercial trips on various public lands. For years, they built and operated the KOA Campground in Cannonville.
Holland has a science-related college degree and has compiled over 300 oral history interviews of residents from all “walks in life” in District 73 counties. These interviews are stored in the SUU Library and are available online. Due to these interviews, she is well known in the counties surrounding southern Utah parks and monuments. Her husband is Chair of the Scenic Highway 12 Commission and is a member on the Utah State Tourism Board.
Holland says that she knows the tourism industry and educational districts of southern Utah as well as the needs of its small businesses and its people. She has participated in recent rallies for the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and supports keeping public lands public.
