Memory Matters hosts quarterly frontotemporal dementia support group
By David J. Moore
Memory Matters Utah/Nevada, in conjunction with The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, will offer a frontal-temporal dementia caregiver support group April 8 from 12:30 – to 1:30 p.m. at the St. George Library.
Bonnie Shephard, who sits on the national board for Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, will be facilitating the caregiver support group. The support group is free and open to anyone caring for someone with this type of dementia.
Frontotemporal dementia, sometimes also referred to as fronto-temporal lobar degeneration or Picks disease, is distinct from other forms of dementia in two important ways: It is a gradual, progressive decline in behavior and/or language with memory usually relatively preserved, and onset often occurs in a person’s 50’s and 60’s but has been seen as early as 21 and as late as 80 years of age. While there are currently no treatments to slow or stop the progression of the disease, frontotemporal dementia research is expanding, producing greater understanding of the disorders.
For more information about the support group, contact Janet at Memory Matters Utah/Nevada at (435) 319-0407 or email janet.labrum.mmu@gmail.com. The St. George Library is located at 88 W 100 S in St. George.
