There is nowhere quite like southern Utah for its outdoor activities and recreation. The City of St. George already has a world-class recreation department, and it was recently expanded to include the outdoors. These outdoor recreation programs—including bouldering, youth mountain biking, and day hikes—are being lead by highly experienced outdoor enthusiasts very skilled in the fields being taught.
Bouldering
Offering classes for both youth and adults, the bouldering program will introduce participants to all the basics and advanced techniques. All levels of climbers are accepted. Participants are exposed to real bouldering outdoors as they head out to local climbing locations. The youth class is for ages 11-17, and the adult class is for 18+. This program includes four classes to learn and practice climbing skills.
Youth Mountain Biking
This particular outdoor recreation program is designed to put maximum fun into exhilarating single-track mountain bike trails and challenging uphill climbs! Skilled instructors help make the challenge of mountain biking more fun than ever. During the four-day class, participants practice shifting, braking and body positioning to prepare for roots, rocks, climbs, and descents. Following the class, newly acquired skills can be perfected on miles of nearby trails. This class is open to ages 11-17. No experience is necessary, but there is a $20 discount for bringing your own bike. It must pass a safety inspection by the program leader to deem it safe to use for the class.
Day Hikes
This course is geared for people of all ages, individuals, couples, and families. This is a great way to get out with a group and experience the great outdoors. A professional outdoor guide leads the group to beautiful locations throughout southern Utah. The trails range from 1 to 10 miles, ranging from easy to strenuous based on experience. Group discounts are available.
The City of St. George’s dedication to recreation continues to be demonstrated with the adding of these new outdoor recreation programs. Whether looking to enjoy any of the new or previous classes or simply work out at the St. George Recreation Center, run a 5k or the St. George Marathon, the City is invested in offering the community plenty of opportunity to find enjoyable ways to get active.
