Pianist Jensina Oliver will perform Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall at Southern Utah University in Cedar City. Oliver will bring to life preludes, nocturnes, and waltzes of Frédéric Chopin; the preludes of George Gershwin; and a sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven. Dr. Christian Bohnenstengel will join Oliver on the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Darius Milhaud’s “Scaramouche.” This concert is free and open to the public.

Known for her expressive and passionate performances, Oliver has appeared as soloist and chamber musician in the United States, China, Canada, Costa Rica, Israel, and Europe. Her performances with orchestras include appearances with the Hubei Provincial Orchestra of Wuhan as well as concerts with the Utah Philharmonia, Orchestra of Southern Utah, Intermountain Chamber Orchestra, University of Washington Symphony, and University of Utah Symphony Orchestra. She was a national finalist of the MTNA Chamber Competition and a resident artist at the Banff Chamber Music Festival and has won several solo and concerto competitions throughout the United States. Oliver earned a doctorate degree at the University of Washington and has taught at Shoreline Community College since 1998.

“I really like hearing guest artists perform because they make me think of new ideas for my own pieces,” said Laura Lee, a sophomore piano performance major. “It is also interesting to learn from them in a master class and then to hear some of these concepts in recital.”
