Piano Monster Concert showcases piano ensembles
By Ashley Pollock
Over 100 piano students from the area will take the stage for the annual Piano Monster Concert Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Center Theater. Piano players with skill levels ranging from beginner through advanced will perform. Multiple Steinway and Boston grand pianos will be on stage. Two or three pianists at each piano will perform piano ensemble music in groups that are divided according to their age and ability.
“My students have been involved in the Piano Monster Concert off and on for the past five years,” said Patrice Hunt, a piano teacher from St. George. “I think this year shows how much my students love participating in the concert with 18 of my 26 students performing. This concert is a wonderful tool for helping students learn to follow a director, learn their music well, have the fun of working with so many other students who are learning the same piece, and have such a great venue to perform in! They can’t believe there will be nine grand pianos on one stage.”
Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for alumni with a card, $3 for youth. SUU faculty and staff (and a guest) and students are free with a current ID.
