Publishers Perspective
– By Josh Warburton –
So I’m calling it now, 2023 will be the year of The Independent! And I’m not talking about the up to 50% of the population (according to Gallop) that now considers themselves unaffiliated with either of the major parties…although that is an interesting subject to me! I’m talking about this here newspaper that you’re either holding in your hand or reading online. And x, you ask, is this the case? Well, let me give you a shortlist.
As we go into 2023, we at The Independent have upped our game in several areas you may or may not be aware of. Firstly, our calendars of events, both in print and online, have reached new levels of robustness, accuracy, and, dare I say, elegance. Our December print calendar, for instance, included detailed listings on 146 events in three printed pages! Online our calendar aggregates events from 88 source sites! You read that right; our calendar automatically pulls in events from 88 local entities’ websites. If your events aren’t already on our calendar, we highly suggest you consider adding them. There’s no charge for a basic listing, and you can bring a lot more attention to them with one of our many promotional opinions starting at just $7 a day! Listings on our online calendar are also part of a nationwide network of interconnected calendars, so folks can see your listing on their community’s calendar that uses our same service if they search in our area. It’s also where we collect all the info for our print calendar.
All of those events are filtered each week into our Weekly Events Guide, which you can get emailed to you every week for no charge. Subscribe, so you don’t miss out on the best events southern Utah has to offer. And while you’re there, be sure you click the Sunday Edition box so your receive our weekly local “Sunday Paper” each week. Every week we publish some of our very best content of that week all in one easy-to-browse digital edition.
Another great feature that many folks don’t know we publish every week is our Adoptable Pets Guide. Our Office Manager Nikki spends numerous hours each week contacting a half dozen or so local entities and assembles them so you can find your next furry best friend!
So at the risk of tooting our own horn a bit to start the year off, we at The Independent think it’s going to be a great year of content from us, and we hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reading and have a happy and prosperous new year!
