Red Slopes Soccer building epic sports complex in Washington City
Red Slopes Soccer will start work on a world-class sports complex to include up to 16 soccer fields and a full-sized indoor training facility in Washington City this summer.
The multi-million-dollar project, which will cater for soccer, rugby, lacrosse, volleyball, and football, is to be built alongside the Southern Parkway in Stucki Farms. Construction on the first phase is planned to start in July, with completion of the initial complex due by spring 2022 and others set to follow in 2023.
Wayne Scholes, Chairman of Really Epic Dog Group, is looking forward to seeing the 55-acre facility welcome its first players.
He said: “We have worked closely with local authorities in the region, so it is thanks to their co-operation, in particular Mayor Ken Neilson, that we can now announce the start of construction.
“This project is a hugely exciting milestone for Red Slopes Soccer, as we look to bring world-class sporting facilities to the Washington City region.
“When it is completed, this will be a world-class facility to place Washington City and Southern Utah firmly on the sporting map – both nationally and across the world.
“It will be open to the entire sporting community in Southern Utah. We want to welcome as many people as possible and have them enjoy the fantastic facilities.”
The multi-purpose project will be open to all soccer clubs in Southern Utah, while also serving as a site for tournaments, coaching clinics, and referee education events.
Daren Woolstenhulme, CEO of Red Slopes Soccer, said: “We have taken a long time to find the right location for our first major facility in Southern Utah, so we are delighted to see this project come to fruition.
“This region already has some great sporting facilities, so it is vital that we create a project for the whole community to enjoy throughout the week.
“Its location next to the Southern Parkway means it is within easy reach of not only Washington City but also traveling teams from further afield.
“The fact that we’re planning to host so many different sports in one location adds an extra dimension to what the area already has to offer.
“This is a very exciting time for 7 Elite Academy and the people who will use this facility. It is the first of several other high-quality sports projects across Utah.
“The project will not only create opportunities for players local to Washington City but also those further afield in Utah and across the world.”
The 130,000 sq ft indoor facility will have a full-sized soccer field, full-sized futsal courts, basketball and volleyball courts, and a gym. In addition to the sports facilities, there will also be locker rooms, purpose-built classrooms for community and local education classes – opening up opportunities for youth development both on and off the field. There will be a café for families and visitors to enjoy.
Ken Neilson, Mayor of Washington City, said: “We at Washington City are very excited to have this World Class Soccer/Sports Complex make their home in Washington City.
“Really Epic Dog Group Chairman Wayne Scholes will be creating an outstanding facility for soccer players, teams, and organizations to play on. They will be able to host national and international tournaments and showcase the beauty of Southern Utah.
“These soccer/sports fields will accelerate the continued popularity of Soccer, Lacrosse, and other field sports. These fields will definitely draw the attention of any organization involved with these sports.
“We are anticipating this facility to be a wonderful gathering place for players and families to enjoy playing and watching and will be a fantastic addition to Washington City and Southern Utah.”
Really Epic Ventures – the community-driven investment company within the Really Epic Dog Group is leading the process.
Dave Hubbard, CEO of Really Epic Ventures said: “Our aim is for this sports complex to become the beating heart of the community and create a positive impact on the people we will welcome there. Every one of our investments align with our company’s core values, two of which are ‘excellence’ and ‘community,’ this is no different.”
