Adding to the excitement of the festivities revolving around southern Utah’s first George Streetfest on Main in downtown St. George this Friday, June 5, is the announcement of the Richens Eye Center Supporting Artists with Vision Scholarship.
For budding artists and entertainers interested in showcasing and selling their work, the scholarship will provide promotional space on Main Street for artists. A scholarship vendor booth will be located in the Little SoHo area of Main Street every first Friday from June to November, accommodating up to two artists each month.
“We feel it is important to support the artists of our community,” said Dr. Sharon Richens of the Richens Eye Center. “Here in southern Utah, we have many vibrant artists that represent the best of who we are and those who provide a significant contribution to our culture and community. We are both honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to support artists in sharing their vision at George Streetfest on Main.”
The Supporting Artists with Vision scholarship provides a tent and table and covers the George Streetfest participation fee for up to two artists each month. Artists and performers interested in applying for this scholarship should complete a vendor application at www.stgeorgedowntown.com, noting application for the Supporting Artists with Vision Scholarship. Artists may only qualify once for the space.
On the first Friday of every month, from 6 to 10 p.m., St. George Main Street will close between Tabernacle and St. George Boulevard for the purpose of celebration. George Streetfest on Main is designed to increase downtown economy, build a rich sense of community in the heart of St. George City, and to provide a clean and safe nightlife entertainment option for local residents and tourists. The event features a signature street concert, street market, buskers, outdoor Jazz Garden at Ancestor Square, and a community engagement Passport to the City program.
