SimonFest Celebrates 22 Seasons With Music & Comedy
SimonFest Theatre Company invites you to come and celebrate its 22nd season with two beloved musicals and a classic comedy.
This year’s productions include Fiddler on the Roof, Ordinary Days, and Steel Magnolias, which will be performed in Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theater from July 5 to August 3. Fiddler on the Roof will then travel to the Egyptian Theatre in Park City, where it will be performed from August 7 to 11, and then it will move to the Bumbleberry Theatre in Springdale, where it will be performed from August 22 to the 24th.
Get ready to witness a truly special performance of fiddler on the Roof. Our very own SimonFest founder and producer, Richard Bugg, will step into the iconic role of Tevye. “This is the role of a lifetime,” shares Bugg. “It has always been a dream of mine. While I have directed the show before, this will be my first time embodying Tevye’s character.”
Under the direction of Richard’s wife, Rebekah Bugg, Fiddler on the Roof promises to be a thought-provoking experience. “It’s a joy to tackle a musical with such strong and universal themes,” remarks Rebekah, “especially at a time with such turmoil in the world. The play challenges us to examine our traditions and their origins, reminding us of the importance of understanding and embracing change. There is a beautiful balance of sadness, laughter, and joy in this show.”
The other musical that will warm the SimonFest boards this Summer is Adam Gwon’s Ordinary Days. The delightful story weaves together the lives of four young New Yorkers as they navigate the complexities of love, loss, and connection in the city. Associate Producer Alyson King Wheeler will take on the directing challenge. “I have had the pleasure,” adds Wheeler, “of directing four amazing local actors and a brilliant pianist who are anything but ordinary. You’ll be inspired by this heartfelt, funny, and beautiful story.”
Rounding out this year’s season is the charming comedy classic Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling. With an all-female directing staff this season, SimonFest chose Desiree Whitehead to take the lead on Magnolias. The story pivots around the lively Truvy Jones’ Louisiana beauty parlor, where a tightly-knit band of friends confront grief, loss, life’s unforeseen tragedies, and heartaches with wit, charm, and a great deal of laughter.
