So U Comedy Theater Invites You To Laughter
1st & 3rd Saturday Each Month – St. George, UT
In the 1990’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? introduced improvised comedy to the mainstream media and quickly became a household staple. If you want to experience those deep-belly laughs again, you’re in luck! St. George has its own short-form improv troupe ready to entertain you! The So U Comedy Theater proudly presents improv with a cast of performers who have spent the last nine years honing their skills.
“Short-form” improv refers to short scenes that usually have a game within the scene, all made up on the spot based on suggestions from the audience. This ensures that no game, or performance, will ever be the same. Each show is unique and unscripted. The So U Comedy Theater recently celebrated its ninth anniversary in March. The audience was welcomed to a spectacular show and joined in the celebration with cake, balloons, and beloved cast members spanning the years, both past and present.
Games performed by the cast are long-time favorites: Late For Work – a side-splitting exhibition in pantomime, the pun-heavy Interrogation – where the details of the crime are unknown to the culprit, keeping the audience hanging on every word until a final confession pronounces the guesser “GUILTY!”, and the uproariously entertaining (and sometimes taboo) Texts – in which players speech is bound to the actual text messages read from an audience members phone.
The focus of the So U Comedy Theater is to entertain, educate, and inspire through the art of improv performance. Through their diligence over the years, they have fostered an improv community and hope to grow even more. A recent addition to the cast, Alex Greenbaum, comes with experience in improv, including managing a community service organization that used improv to teach children essential life skills like teamwork and active listening. “It was much to my delight when I learned that St George had an improv troupe. I attended my first community practice and found everyone to be nice and supportive. It wasn’t long until I was able to audition and be accepted into the cast. Being a part of So U, attending practice, and performing in shows is the highlight of my week. I highly recommend checking out So U!”
