Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and are up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have questions about a specific pet or the adoption process, please email adoptions@bestfriends.org. If you’d like to apply to adopt one of these featured pets, click the link to their bio where you will find the adoption survey.

Tito

Meet Tito! He enjoys walks, playing fetch, and relaxing on cozy beds. He also rides nicely in the car. Tito does best meeting new people when they give him space initially so he can build trust on his own terms, and he’d prefer a home without small children. He takes some medication to help him with his anxiety and does best in a quieter environment with routine. Tito currently lives with other dogs at the sanctuary, but it would be best for him to meet the dogs in the home prior to adoption. Tito will make a great companion so please fill out an adoption survey today if you’d like to make him part of your family.

Remi

Remi is an absolute cuddle bug, he loves getting belly rubs and will climb in your lap to get the best snuggles. Most recently, Remi has been living as an office dog at the sanctuary, he just loves all the attention it gets him. Remi appears to be potty trained. He loves going for walks and car rides, Remi walks well on a leash, rarely pulling. He would do best with taller fencing and supervision while outside since he has escaped a three-foot fence previously. Remi is a pretty quiet dog, only barking if he needs to go outside. If you would like to add Remi to your family, reach out to an adoption specialist today.

Callaway

Are you looking for a BFF that loves to chill, go for short walks, and snuggle? Well, sweet senior Callaway is your girl! As a dog “of a certain age, Callaway enjoys the simple things in life: car rides, treats, a good nap (preferably in a sunny spot), sniffing all the things while strolling, and most of all, hanging out with her favorite person: you! Callaway has some very cute quirks, like snorting when she’s excited and doing Zoomies with her happy helicopter tail. She also has a few mobility issues that require medication, but Callaway doesn’t let that keep her down – she still has a lot of spunk. This endearing gal would prefer to be your only pet, but she’s all the pet you need. If you’re ready for a whole lot of love, ask to meet Callaway today. She’s ready to be your bestie now!

Bullock

Bullock is a sophisticated feline who loves humans but appreciates cats who give her space. Despite her sometimes standoffish attitude to others of her kind, she invites humans into her space at any and all times. Will you be the one who gives this sweet girl a home of her own?

Belair

Come meet the gorgeous Belair! This lovely lady is looking for a calm home with a family that will give her the time and space to come out of her shell and blossom into the sweet cat she is. She does well with other cats and even finds comfort in their company. Do you have it in your heart to welcome this cat into your life?

Deb

Although you can usually find her napping the day away, Deb is very opinionated and will share those opinions quite adamantly! She is looking for a quiet home, where she can be the queen of the castle. Could it be yours? Give us a call and make arrangements today to meet Dab.

RSQ

RSQ is a non-profit animal rescue in St. George, Utah. Our mission is to be a voice for the voiceless, bettering the lives of animals in Utah’s rural communities. All the animals in our care are fully vetted including spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchiped, and any medical care they may need before adoption. Katie

Ms. Katie is a beautiful chihuahua who came in with her new puppies. Her babies have found their forever homes, but Katie is still looking for hers! She is dog door/potty trained and doing great. She is friendly, gentle, and quiet, loves kisses, and would be good in a home with other dogs or alone.  Very sweet girl looking for a loving home. She is in foster so schedule a meet and greet today!

Tavi

Tavi is a gorgeous Treeing Walker Coonhound. Known to be a vocal breed, sweet Tavi definitely has plenty to say! This poor guy was also living outside until new caretakers contacted us to give him a new lease on life. He is learning the joys of living inside and having people to love. He will need patience but will reward you with plenty of return affection. He is gentle, friendly, and smart and would be good in a home with other dogs or alone. Come meet Tavi today!

Julius

Julius is a sweet Black Labrador Retriever mix. He had been living outside, with his pal, Tavi, until new caretakers found him and contacted us. He was so timid when he first arrived but has grown so brave since then.  He is very friendly, affectionate, gentle, playful, smart, protective, and loyal and would be good in a home with other dogs or alone. He is enjoying living inside and having food in his belly. He loves to sit close to you and will make you the most loyal companion!

Avocado

Avocado is a playful young cat and enjoys his toys and wrestling with his RSQ buddies. Avocado (or Avo-cat-o) tolerates humans, is shy, and prefers to watch from the sidelines unless you bring out a toy…then he becomes the ultimate master of prey! (Watch out little feather you don’t stand a chance). Avocado has keen hearing – he can hear a can of cat food being opened in the next room and then he’s all love. He is house-trained and would be good in a home with other cats or alone.

Gobble

Gobble is an independent cat who loves to nap while soaking up the sun. He has a kind disposition. Gobble enjoys head scratches and having his silky fur brushed. He is house-trained and would be good in a home with other cats or alone. Do you have a sunny spot in your heart and home for Gobble?

Eden

This adorable young cat longs for a loving home. Eden has a sweet disposition but is a solitary cat. She enjoys head scratches and cuddling. She is house-trained and would be good in a home with other cats or alone. She will bring happiness and bliss to your home.

Introducing Pets to Each Other

Whether or not your pets get along depend on their personalities. Your current pet may view a new pet as a threat; there may be a few scuffles as each animal establishes his “place in the pack”. Do not interrupt them if there is no danger of injury, and provided they are supervised at all times.

Some pets will merely tolerate each other. Others will become great companions (like my own two dogs and cat). Here are a few tips for introducing a new pet into your home.

Always supervise your pets until you are absolutely sure they get along. Until then, separate your pets by confining at least one of them to its own room. Only allow them to interact with each other with your supervision. It may take them hours, days, weeks, or even months for your pets to adjust fully to one another.

Introduce your pets indoors in controlled situations. Keep your dogs on a leash and do not tolerate any aggressive behavior. If you are introducing a cat to a dog, do not allow the dog to chase or corner the cat – even if it’s out of playfulness or curiosity.

When introducing a cat to a dog, do NOT hold the cat in your arms. A frightened or nervous cat may scratch.

Allow your new pet to familiarize itself with its new home. Temporarily confine existing pets to a room to give your new pet a chance to feel more comfortable with its surroundings.

Give your pets separate food and water bowls. If you are introducing cats, also provide separate litter boxes. Feed your new and existing pets in different locations.

Be especially careful when introducing dogs or cats to caged animals. Dogs and cats can live in harmony with rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, etc… but please introduce them under strictly controlled supervision. Keep in mind that cats are very agile, so placing a cage high up on a shelf doesn’t necessarily protect the caged pet. Don’t take any chances – one mistake could be fatal to your caged pet.

Give them time. Do not try to force your pets together; allow them to adjust at their own pace. Give all your pets – particularly the new one – time to gain confidence and decide when to face his or her new housemates.

Wyatt

Wyatt is a 2 years old Karelian bear dog/husky. I was a little reserved and to be honest, scared the first week I was here. Now that I know it’s safe here I have become much more social. I am going to need lots of exercise and I am a little high energy when I first get outside but then I calm down and really soak up the lovin’ & attention that I am given. I sure am ready for my life to look up again and I can’t wait to find a family that I can rely on and love forever

Carrot

Look no further than Carrot. Just look at him and you will see where he got his name. Carrot is a 7-year-old cat with just the most charming personality. He’s definitely outgrown his exuberant kitten years and is now being mellow and taking things easy. He loves getting attention from people, he’ll even get up on his back feet and be a “gopher” to ensure he gets as much as possible. Carrot still enjoys playtime, but she prefers to spend his time just relaxing near his people, being brushed and adored watching them as they go about their day. He would make for a great sidekick while you read the paper or work on the computer or just lazing about the home. He needs to be the only cat in the home, please.

Maxwell

Eight-year-old Maxwell suddenly found himself an orphan when his owner unexpectedly died and, understandably, doesn’t like to be left alone. He’s a sweet boy who enjoys playing with other dogs but doesn’t like cats and isn’t fond of kids either.

Maxwell’s foster says he’s about 80% housebroken. She also said he is a Houdini and will hide and then try to escape. His adopter will need to keep a close eye on him so he doesn’t dash out the door. This behavior may disappear once he feels secure and comfortable in his new loving home.

Ozzy

Tiny Ozzy is only six months old and he’s housebroken, crate trained, rides well in a car, and gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs. He’s the cutest little thing ever…the perfect addition to your family this Christmas!

Ozzy will be available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster to adopt until he’s neutered on December 15th, at which time his adoption will be finalized and this sweet baby boy will be all yours forever

Frogger

Frogger is friendly, sweet, and outgoing. He’s very social and loves playing with other dogs. He even seems to get along with cats!!! He would make an awesome addition to any family!

We estimate Frogger’s age at six years because of the condition of his teeth. He is available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster to adopt until he gets a dental at which time his adoption can be finalized and this big hunk of a boy will become all yours!

Dash

Some Native American cultures believe having heterochromia (one blue eye and one brown) means one can see heaven and earth at the same time. They refer to this as having Ghost Eyes and beautiful Dash definitely has them. And if his eyes don’t melt your heart, his cute little nose will! Not only is he stunning, but he is also a total love bug who will melt right into your arms.

Dash was dumped at Parowan Gap and lived on his own for at least two weeks. One of the local families put food out for him until he became brave enough to be coaxed inside where he immediately found the couch. He was good with their kids and dogs.

Dash is young (we’re guessing six months to a year) and has a lot of energy. He likes to play with other dogs but can be enthusiastic so he’ll do best with some training. He’s afraid of loud noises and sudden movements and terrified of water from a hose. Who knows what this sweet boy went through before he was left to fend for himself. He deserves so much better.

Diamond

Eight-year-old Diamond is a gentle girl who would give anything to be in an easy-going home with someone special who will take her on leisurely walks and activities and smother her with hugs! She adores sitting in the shady grass and just being loved on.

The poor girl was rescued from a kill shelter in California and, even though she’s safe now, she’s not a fan of being kenneled and would much prefer sitting on a couch with her humans all day watching soap operas.

Diamond enjoys the company of other dogs and will gently remind those that are too playful to be respectful of her age. She’s not a grumpy old lady though–if you ever want a laugh, just get a toy out and watch her play. She steals everyone’s hearts. She has lots of love in her and just needs someone to share it with.

Roxy

Roxy needs a playmate!  This girl is so affectionate, full of life, and smart, smart, smart!!! She wants nothing more than get outside and play ball, tug, you name it–she just wants to play!

Unfortunately, life changes didn’t allow pretty Roxy to stay with her family and she has to be re-homed. She’s a wonderful girl (did we mention that she’s smart?) who needs someone with an active lifestyle and time to help develop her mind. She would probably be a great agility dog, frisbee fetcher, and/or running/hiking partner. And once she’s worn you out, she’ll snuggle up to you on the couch for cuddles and cookies. (Exercise and cookies- you can’t lose!) And can you imagine gazing into those gorgeous eyes every day?
