Southern Utah Weekend Events
Summer is in full swing in Southern Utah. Check out the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Neil Simon Festival in Cedar City for an amazing selection of plays! Historic St. George Live
Every Thursday–Saturday at 10 a.m., watch historical figures come alive and describe what southern Utah living was like at the turn of the century. This is fun for the whole family. Neil Simon Festival presents “Brighton Beach Memoirs”
Playing at the Neil Simon Festival, “Brighton Beach Memoirs” is part of a autobiographical trilogy portraying the writer as a young teenager. This play will show Thursday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City. For ticket information, go to simonfest.org.
The Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “Mary Poppins”
The beloved “Mary Poppins” is being brought to the stage, courtesy of the 2016 Utah Shakespeare Festival. Bring the family to this G-rated show in Cedar City at the Randall L. Jones Theater. Eva Fry at The Retreat at Sunbrook

Golden Gloves Junior Nationals at Casablanca Resort

Brigham’s Playhouse presents “Joseph Smith: Praise to the Man”

Dixie State University and Summer Comedy Theater present “The Lieutenant of Inishmore”
Dixie State University’s Summer Comedy Theater presents “The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” a dark comedy set in a rural village in the early 1990s. This play has an “R” rating for graphic violence, language, blood, and a cat. “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” plays every Thursday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Eccles Fine Arts Center at Dixie State University. Hank Williams: Lost Highway
A musical biography presented by the Neil Simon Festival in Cedar City of the talented Hank Williams. This show is rated PG and has received high praise from by Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and the New York Post. Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “Much Ado About Nothing”
Beatrice and Benedick battle it out in a contest of wits — until they land in each other’s arms. This romantic celebration introduces you to these famous lovers and host of other eccentric characters. The play will show Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Engelstad Shakespeare Theater. Tuacahn presents “Tarzan”
Tuacahn Amphitheater brings an unforgettable experience to the stage in Disney’s timeless adventure, “Tarzan.” This musical will show Thursday through Saturday at 8:30 p.m. until Oct. 12. Casablanca Resort presents Throwback Thursday: free movies at the pool

Neil Simon Festival presents “On Golden Pond”

O.C. Tanner Amphitheater in Zion presents “Sanctuary: The Story of Zion”
The Tanner Amphitheater will host an original production titled, “Sanctuary, The Story of Zion.” This show tells the multi-layered story of Zion National Park through pictures, story, and song. Sanctuary chronicles the evolution of the canyon in a way that entertains, educates, and leaves the audience with a better understanding of the challenges and triumphs that are part of the history of one of the nation’s most popular national parks. The Sunset on the Square summer movie series is back Friday at 8:30 p.m. Join the St. George community at St. George Town Square for a family night of fun and the movie “Cool Runnings.” Bring your blanket, chairs, and goodies to this free event.
Lisa Mac at Jazzy’s
Lisa Mac is back at Jazzy’s Rock and Roll Grill on Bluff. Enjoy the special talent of this young local star on Friday at 9 p.m. Grab dinner and a beer at Jazzy’s and make a night of it.
Downtown Farmer’s Market at Ancestor Square
One of the favorite Southern Utah Weekend Events, the Downtown Farmer’s Market, is open every Saturday at 8 a.m. to noon in Ancestor Square at 2 W. St. George Blvd. and will run through Oct. 29. The market features live music and an array of vendors. The Downtown Farmer’s Market is a nonprofit project dedicated to promoting the downtown area as well as organic gardening, homemade arts and crafts, and other goods. The market accepts the Horizon Card and participates in “Double Up Bucks” offered through a grant from Utahns Against Hunger. Come to the market and shop for farm-fresh produce with your Horizon Card and Double Up Bucks will match what you spend up to $10 each Saturday.
Year-Round Farmer’s Market in Cedar City
Visit the only Year-Round Farmer’s Market in Utah; a real farmers market that sells only locally produced and grown fruit, vegetables, jam, bread, and other farm products. “The Addams Family” auditions at the Electric Theater
Auditions for “The Addams Family” will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Electric Theater in St. George. This new musical comedy is directed by Josh Scott with musical direction by Brodie Perry and choreography by Chelsea Sweaney. Those wishing to audition should bring a resume and headshot (if available), 16–24 bars of an absurd, strange, or comedic song and a one-minute monologue of the same type. A pianist will be provided, and you may bring your own sheet music or your own pianist. Any recorded minus tracks should be on your iPhone, iPad, or other similar device. Callbacks will be held later that same day.
“Snapshot 1880’s — The Way Our Pioneers Worked in Washington County”
The Silver Reef Museum and DUP McQuarrie Memorial Museum collaboration “Snapshot 1880’s — The Way Our Pioneers Worked in Washington County” is on display in the Arts to Zion Showcase at Gallery 35 in downtown St. George. The exhibit is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dick Earl’s Electric Witness at Zion Canyon Brew Pub
On Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m., visit the Zion Canyon Brew Pub in Springdale for Dick Earl’s Electric Witness. Enjoy this local musician with some food and a drink on Saturday afternoon. Check out the SUSWA website for more information.
Pioneer Day Pool Party: Live music and fireworks
Come join this family friendly event at the Washington City Community Center. Celebrate Pioneer Day at the WCCC pool this Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. This event includes a foam dance and pool party. On Saturday, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., The Zion Community Center in Springdale is hosting a free drum circle and fire ceremony. This is an open event to the public. Fireside in Zarahemla
On Sunday at 7 p.m., this delightful program will be patterned after Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and will include a variety of comedy acts, singers, bands, and spoken word. the event is free and rated G.
