Happy Fourth of July weekend! The Southern Utah Weekend Events Guide is here, and this week we’ve included Monday’s Fourth of July events and celebrations throughout Southern Utah. Brigham’s Playhouse presents “Charly: A Love Song”
Jack Weyland’s famous book, “Charly,” comes to life at Brigham’s Playhouse in a musical adaption written by Heather Young and Lex De Azevedo. This romantic comedy will be showing at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday through July 2. Ticket prices vary and children under 5 are not permitted.
Dixie State University and Summer Comedy Theatre present “The Lieutenant of Inishmore”
Dixie State University’s Summer Comedy Theatre presents “The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” a dark comedy set in a rural village in the early 1990s. This play has an “R” rating for graphic violence, language, blood, and a cat. “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” plays every Thursday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Eccles Fine Arts Center at Dixie State University. Tuacahn presents “Tarzan”
Tuacahn Amphitheater brings an unforgettable experience to the stage in Disney’s timeless adventure, “Tarzan.” This musical play will show Thursday through Saturday at 8:30 p.m. until October 12. This is the perfect family adventure for kids and adults. Ticket prices vary and can be purchased at the Tuacahn website.
Tuacahn presents “Peter Pan”
Tuacahn Amphitheater brings another beautiful performance of the childhood favorite “Peter Pan.” This play will show starting Thursday at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday at 8:45 p.m. Check out Tuacahn.org for showtimes and ticket purchases.
Kolob Plein Air Society special exhibit
This special exhibit is courtesy of the Kolob Plein Air Society and aims to highlight and celebrate our national parks in honor of the National Park Service Centennial through outdoor painting. Go to Frontier Homestead State Park in Cedar City on Thursday for this all-day exhibit.
The Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “The Cocoanuts”
The Utah Shakespeare Festival and Randall L. Jones theater in Cedar City present “The Cocoanuts.” This theatrical comedy starts showing July 1 at 2 p.m. and will show through October 15 on select days. For show times and ticket information, visit bard.org.
The Aces at Jazzy’s
The Aces will be performing at Jazzy’s on Friday at 7 p.m. Get down to Jazzy’s, grab a coffee or beer and great food, and check out the live music of the four girls who are about to take over the world.
Brigham’s Playhouse Presents “First Freedom”
Award-winning playwright Rob Lauer and Emmy Award-winning Utah composer Sam Cardon bring a powerful new musical, “First Freedom,” to the stage at Brigham’s Playhouse every Friday at 7 p.m. and every Saturday at 2 p.m. until July 2. This combination of humor, suspense, and gripping music tells the story of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison’s fight for humankind’s most fundamental right: freedom of religion. Tickets vary in price and can be purchased online at the Brigham’s Playhouse website.
Dixie State University and Summer Comedy Theatre present “Five Women Wearing The Same Dress”
Dixie State University’s Summer Comedy Theatre presents “Five Women Wearing The Same Dress,” a play that follows five bridesmaids through an evening of bonding as they hide from a wedding that they do not want to be part of and a bride that they don’t even like. This play is rated “R” for adult themes and language. “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” plays and Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Eccles Fine Arts Center at Dixie State University. Zach Alwin at Toadz
Friday at 7:30 p.m., Zach Alwin will perform live music at Toadz in Cedar City. Experience some phenomenal talent and some yummy grub, and have a great first of July!
Harry-O at George’s Corner Restaurant
Harry-O is back at George’s Corner Restaurant on Ancestor Square. Enjoy the instrumentalist Jam with Harry-O on Friday at 8 p.m. Grab dinner and a beer at George’s and make a night out of it.
The Comedy Machine at The Casablanca
The Comedy Machine at The Casablanca in Mesquite presents comedians: Mario Zapata, Dave Burleigh, and Brian McKim. Don’t miss this hilarious show at the Casablanca on Friday at 8:30 p.m. This is a 21 and over show. Please bring your I.D.
“Sanctuary: The Story of Zion” at the O.C. Tanner Amphitheatre in Springdale
The Tanner Amphitheater will play host this summer to an original production titled “Sanctuary, The Story of Zion.” Written by beloved storyteller and singer/songwriter Sam Payne, the show will tell the multi-layered story of Zion National Park through pictures, story, and song. From the First Peoples, to the settlers who founded the town, to the present day tourists and residents, “Sanctuary” will chronicle the evolution of the canyon in a way that entertains, educates, and leaves the audience with a better understanding of the challenges and triumphs that are part of the history of one of the nation’s most popular national parks. Bombay Heavy at the Bit and Spur
Bombay Heavy will perform at the Bit and Spur on Friday at 10 p.m. Based out of Las Vegas and London, this band features touring musicians from The Killers, The Who, Tenacious D, and more. Their first Las Vegas show opens on July 2. Join them for a once-in-a-lifetime experience during a night of practice at the famous Bit and Spur before their tour begins. Downtown Farmer’s Market at Ancestor Square
One of the favorite Southern Utah Weekend Events, The Downtown Farmer’s Market, is open every Saturday at 8 a.m. to noon in Ancestor Square at 2 W. St. George Blvd. and will run through Oct. 29. The market features live music and an array of vendors. The Downtown Farmer’s Market is a nonprofit project dedicated to promoting the downtown area as well as organic gardening, homemade arts and crafts, and other goods. The market accepts the Horizon Card and participates in “Double Up Bucks” offered through a grant from Utahns Against Hunger. Come to the market and shop for farm-fresh produce with your Horizon Card and Double Up Bucks will match what you spend up to $10 each Saturday.
The Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “Mary Poppins”

Casapalooza Poolside Concert features Lights Journey Tribute
Go to the Casablanca on Saturday night for a live poolside concert featuring Lights Journey Tribute. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. This is a 21 and older show, bring your I.D. This is a free concert hosted by Casablanca.
Fourth of July events
Springdale parade and Fourth of July celebration
Springdale’s Fourth of July Celebration starts on Monday at 10 a.m. Join Springdale at the entrance of Zion National Park and experience a slice of real Americana and the wonderful homegrown parade tradition. After enjoying your time in town or the park, stop for an outdoor celebration in front of the Zion Canyon Brew Pub from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. You’ll enjoy the live sounds of Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band, a beer garden hosted by the Zion Brewery, American barbecue, watermelon-eating contests for all ages, and more! Rockets Over The Red Mesa fireworks show
The Eureka family invites you to experience Rockets Over The Red Mesa with a touch of Sinatra featuring Steve Lippia. This event will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. A live performance by the Nevada Pops Orchestra will play before the Rockets over the Red Mesa Fireworks begin. St. George Fourth of July celebration
