Michael Plyler special exhibit
“Zion Canyon: A Storied Land” is an exhibit by photographer Michael Plyler that highlights the beauty of our neighboring Zion National Park. This special exhibit is being presented to celebrate the National Park Service centennial. Regular admission fees apply. This exhibit will be on display daily through Oct. 31. at Frontier Homestead State Park.
“Go Out & Play” exhibit
“Go Out & Play” is an exhibit of many local and original artists from the southern Utah area. The event features Karen March, Professor McGarren, Jodi Fuller, Dan Whalen, Dan Lewis, Fiona Phillips, Julie Rogers, Larry Winborg, Jeremy Winborg, and Kirk Parkinson. The exhibit aims to inspire a sense of wonder, creativity, and natural curiosity. This free exhibit shows 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Nov. 11. “Snapshot 1880–2016: Artist’s Work! The Role of Art in Zion National Park”
The Silver Reef Museum and Zion History Association present this collaborative exhibit that features local visual artists Roland Lee and Royden Card. It is a unique art exhibit that explores the role of art in Zion National Park. It will explore the ways in which artists have promoted Zion National Park visually to a worldwide audience, beginning with the World’s Fair in 1903 in St. Louis and ending with the Zion National Park’s plein air event Nov. 7–13. This exhibit runs from Oct. 6 through Nov. 3 with a public reception to be held Oct. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. during George Streetfest at the Arts to Zion Showcase at Gallery 35, located in the Downtown Historic District. The Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “Murder For Two”
Everybody is a suspect in this hilarious musical murder-mystery with a twist. In “Murder for Two,” one actor investigates the crime. The other plays all the suspects. And they both play the piano! Don’t miss the fun at this play in Cedar City at the Eileen and Allen Anes Studio Theatre Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. This show will run through Oct. 22. Tickets can be purchased at bard.org.
Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “The Odd Couple”
The Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “The Odd Couple” Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Randall L. Jones Theater in Cedar City. Tuacahn presents “Tarzan”
Tuacahn Amphitheater brings an unforgettable experience to the stage in Disney’s timeless adventure, “Tarzan.” This musical will show Thursdays–Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. through Oct. 12. This is the perfect family adventure for kids and adults. Ticket prices vary from $29 to $79 and can be purchased at the Tuacahn website.
Tuacahn’s inaugural New Works Festival
The Tuacahn New Works Program has selected “Fairy Tale Christmas” and “The First Gentleman” for its debut. Both musicals will open to public audiences Friday. Admission is free, but patrons must call the Tuacahn Box Office to arrange seating reservations. Call the box office at 1 (800) 746-9882.
Arts in Kayenta Festival
A free arts festival that will feature over 75 artists from across the country will be held at the Kayenta Art Village Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be live music, specialty food vendors, and the return of the popular beer and wine garden. St. George Music Store hosts free guitar string recycling event
The Music Store will host a free guitar string recycling event to recycle old and used guitar strings Friday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. Musicians can bring in their old strings for recycling as well as get their electric or acoustic guitars restrung with new strings, furnished by D’Addario, for free. George Streetfest: Oktoberfest 2016
Every first Friday of each month, George Streetfest invites you to gather in Historic Downtown St. George for a celebration of southern Utah. There will be a free concert on Main Street, “Tom Bennet One-Man Band”, DJ Youth Dance Party, and the Jazz Garden at Ancestor Square for adults 21 and older. “A Long and Winding Road” art exhibit

Royal Bliss and Wayne Hoskins Band live at Firehouse Bar and Grill
Two bands will perform at the Firehouse on Friday, Oct. 7. The show starts at 7 p.m., and there will be a cover charge of $15. Tickets can be purchased at the Firehouse or at SmithTix.com. Hurricane Valley Theatrical Company presents Elton John and Tim Rice’s “AIDA,” a timeless love story filled with colorful characters, show-stopping dance numbers, incredible music, and much more. Downtown Farmer’s Market at Ancestor Square
One of the favorite Southern Utah Weekend Events, the Downtown Farmer’s Market, is open every Saturday at 8 a.m. to noon in Ancestor Square at 2 W. St. George Blvd. and will run through Oct. 29. The market features live music and an array of vendors. The Downtown Farmer’s Market is a nonprofit project dedicated to promoting the downtown area as well as organic gardening, homemade arts and crafts, and other goods.
