The Southwest Symphony Orchestra will present a major choral-orchestral collaboration with the St. George Chamber Singers on March 27 and 28 at Desert Hills Auditorium. Both concerts begin at 7:30 PM.

Led by Maestro Lucas Darger, the program opens with Franz von Suppé’s Poet & Peasant Overture. Audiences will then hear Adoration by Florence Price, a lyrical work by one of the most important American composers of the twentieth century.

The collaboration continues with John Rutter’s The Gift of Life, conducted by Dr. Paul Wiens, Director of the St. George Chamber Singers.

“The spirit of the work is joyful, thoughtful, and full of gratitude for the gift of life … and thus provides a balance for what follows the intermission, the Mozart Requiem,” Wiens said.

The concert concludes with Mozart’s Requiem, one of the most revered works in the choral repertoire.

“Mozart’s Requiem confronts life, loss, and hope with breathtaking honesty,” Darger said. “The Requiem is especially poignant for me, and one I’m deeply honored to share with our audience. We’re very excited to collaborate with this fantastic choir and to be able to perform this incredible music.”

Guest soloists include soprano Madison Leonard, mezzo-soprano Aubrey Adams-McMillan, tenor Shea Owens and Grammy Award winner Thomas Glenn, bass.

These performances are sponsored by Gardner Facial Plastic Surgery and Robert & Geneva Lee.

Tickets start at $23, with discounts available for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased at swsutah.org/events.
