Springdale to Celebrate Its 66th Birthday
– By Cami Cox –
On Friday, March 7, the Town of Springdale will celebrate its city birthday, marking 66 years as a municipality. The celebration will take place from 2-4 PM at the Canyon Community Center, 126 Lion Blvd. in Springdale. Community members are invited to attend.
Attendees can meet and mingle with public officials and town staff and also visit info booths sponsored by each town department. Refreshments will be provided, and a prize drawing for Locals Week will also take place.
It was in 1959 that the formerly unincorporated village of Springdale became a municipality. The previously isolated village had begun experiencing rapid growth with the dedication of Mukuntuweap National Monument (later to become Zion National Park) and the advent of the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway and Tunnel. Residents eventually recognized the need for the formation of a local government, and these events paved the way for Springdale’s transformation into the thriving community it is today. Millions of people visit Zion National Park every year, also stopping in Springdale and patronizing its businesses while in the area enjoying the park.
