St. George Art Museum hosts winter solstice celebration
By David Cordero
Intended to link people to a time of peaceful contemplation, “Light the Night” is a winter solstice celebration filled with music, lights, and children’s activities set for Dec. 20 at 5:30 p.m. inside the St. George Art Museum and the surrounding area.
“Come enjoy the beauty of the season,” said Gary Sanders, community arts and exhibits manager. “You are welcome to bring your own luminary and help light the night.”
From the onset of time, humans and animals have paid close attention to the movements of the sun. The winter solstice, the day with the least hours of sunshine, and the summer solstice, the day with the most sunlight, continue to spark wonder.
There will be more than 100 luminaries lighting the courtyard between the St. George Art Museum, social hall and opera house with the St. George Opera performing inside the St. George Art Museum. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased in person at the museum or by phone at (435) 627-4525.
Children can use large drawing pages inside the social hall, and hot chocolate will be available.
