The first St. George Art and Studio Tour will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, through Saturday, Sept. 19. The tour incorporates Third Thursday Art Conversations at the St. George Art Museum, the Art On Main gallery stroll on Friday, open artist studios Friday and Saturday, and a downtown sculpture tour on Saturday.
The new St. George Art and Studio Tour will occur monthly from September through June on the third weekend. In January, it will be a part of the countywide Arts to Zion Studio Tour, held Jan. 14-18.
Kicking off the St. George Art and Studio Tour on Thursday will be the St. George Art Museum’s brand new exhibit, “Twisted, Woven, Spun, and Wrapped,” featuring fiber arts. The 7 p.m. Third Thursday Art Conversation will feature artist Kay Miner, whose installation “A Bright Swirling of Bugs” is now on exhibit in the museum’s Legacy Collection.
On Friday, Sept. 20, visit open studios from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. using a map available online here. In the evening, enjoy live music and art demonstrations at the Art On Main gallery stroll from 5-8 p.m. To participate in the stroll, begin at the St. George Art Museum, then walk down Main Street from gallery to gallery, filling a punch card for a chance to win a piece of original fine art at the end of the night. Featured artists include Julie Rogers at The Mission Gallery, Mary Grow at Split Rock Fine Art Gallery, photographer Nathan Wotkyns at Wide Angle Photography, photographer Charlie Kessner at Twenty-Five Main Cafe, Kirsten Beitler at the DiFiore Center, Kirk Parkinson Studio, Carol Bold Studio, Desert Rose Art Studio and Gallery, and Lonni Clarke, Frank Huff, Georgia Johnson, and Erric Wan-Kier at the new Arts to Zion Showcase at 35 N. Main St. Music will be provided by Beans N’ Wheels, violin soloists, and others.
Saturday, Sept. 21, artist studios are again open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also at 10 a.m., a guided tour of downtown sculptures is available from representatives of the Art Around the Corner Foundation, beginning at the St. George Art Museum and working down to Town Square. Art Around the Corner representatives will explain how sculptures appear on Main Street and how they change from year to year in an extraordinary arrangement featuring some of the most talented sculptors in the West.
