The St. George Astronomy Group and Ivins City will host a free public star party at Unity Park in Ivins on Thursday evening, May 21, at 9 p.m. All are invited to come out to view the night sky either through personal telescopes or a variety of telescopes which will be provided by St. George Astronomy Group, with experts on hand to assist with the telescope operation and explain features of the night sky.

Telescopes will be pointed to the crescent moon, the planets Venus and Jupiter, double stars, star clusters, and distant galaxies. An astronomer will use a laser to point out bright stars and major constellations.

The star party will be held on the south side lawn of Unity Park on 400 South, midway between 200 West and 400 West. Parking is available on 400 South and in the parking lot one block to the east. The St. George Astronomy Group party begins at 9 p.m. and will last one hour.

Cloud cover will lead to a cancellation of the event.
