The St. George Astronomy Group and Ivins City invite the public to a free star party on Saturday, Jan. 16. All are invited to view the sky through a variety of telescopes and to learn the constellations.
The free public star party is jointly sponsored by the St. George Astronomy Group and Ivins City. It will be held in Unity Park on 400 South midway between 200 West and 400 West. Parking is available on 400 South and in the parking lot one block to the east. The star party begins at 6:30 p.m. and lasts two hours. This is an event for the entire family. It is advised that attendees dress warmly. Cloud cover will cancel the event.
Telescopes will be pointed to the crescent moon, double stars, the great Orion Nebula, and distant galaxies. An astronomer will use a laser to point out bright stars and major constellations.
The St. George Astronomy Group is Washington County’s astronomy advocacy organization, and our missions are to reach out to the public through free star parties and other public events, and to preserve the dark skies over southern Utah through proper outdoor lighting.
