St. George Chamber Singers To Perform At The Good Shepard Church
On Friday, May 6, 2022, the St. George Chamber Singers will be performing “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” at the Good Shepherd Church. Featuring selections from Frank Martin’s Mass, a Bach Motet, and pieces from Lauridson, Mealor, and Kirchner, this concert is the second and final concert for the choir’s spring season.
The St. George Chamber Singers are a mixed chorus of about 30 members conducted by Dr. Paul Wiens. Their lively programs explore a cappella and accompanied music spanning six centuries and different musical styles. Concerts are free to the public and are guaranteed to bring awe and reverence to the musically trained ear as well as those interested in listening to some of the most beautiful choral pieces ever written.
Founded in 2015, the St. George Chamber Singers is comprised of choral artists committed to excellence in the performance of vocal chamber music. Singing with increasing levels of tonal richness, expressive intensity, and compelling collective artistry, the SGCS is setting new standards of choral virtuosity and musicianship in the Desert Southwest.
During his career, Dr. Weins conducted choirs in Georgia, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Illinois, spending much of his career at Wheaton College while teaching in the Wheaton Conservatory of Music. Upon retirement and appointment as Professor Emeritus in 2021, Wiens moved to St. George where he has conducted the Chamber Singers since its founding in 2015.
Beginning at 7:30 PM, the concert will be about 90 minutes in length and will be located at the Good Shepherd Church at 611 N. 2450 E., St. George, UT 84790. Admission is free.
