This year, the St. George Gobbler Run raised $1,100 to help DOVE Center continue to provide shelter, advocacy, and counseling for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors right here in St. George.
In 2013, two local brothers, Collins and Adam Stuart, started a family tradition intended to burn calories and energy before, as they put it, “the gluttony” of Thanksgiving began. In the two years since, the St. George Gobbler Run has evolved into a fun way for the entire community to get outdoors and make memories with loved ones on a universal holiday. It also provides a wonderful giving opportunity to kick off the holiday season, as each participant in the race is invited to make a donation of any amount, which the brothers match dollar for dollar, to DOVE Center.
“This heart-warming thoughtfulness is what makes our local community wonderful,” said Lindsey Boyer of DOVE Center. “The generosity is overwhelming.”
When asked what motivated the brothers to give back to DOVE, Adam Stuart explained they grew up in a household where respect and empathy for women was a core value. As a teenager, Adam was inspired to focus his Eagle Scout project on the DOVE Center and installed awnings on the windows at the shelter to provide much-needed security and privacy for the residents there.
DOVE Center wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the Stuart brothers and to each of the runners who donated for their thoughtful generosity.
