St. George Mayor Jon Pike’s State of the City address includes surprise announcement
St. George Mayor Jon Pike will discuss a variety of topics pertaining to the city and its future during his annual State of the City address set for Feb. 6 at noon in conjunction with the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce at the DSU Gardner Center Ballroom.
Members of the public may attend for free; however, those wishing to eat lunch must register ahead of the event at stgeorgechamber.com. Payment of $15 for lunch can be made online or at the door. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m., and the mayor’s speech will begin at noon.
Pike said he plans to make a big announcement about active transportation.
“I am thrilled to get the opportunity to deliver our State of the City address to the Chamber as well as the St. George community as a whole,” said Pike. “The state of our city is strong. I am excited to share with our citizens what we have planned.”
Those unable to attend Feb. 6 have several viewing options. The speech may be viewed live on local cable, TDS Channel 22. Online, it can be seen at sgcity.org.
Mayor Pike will mark the achievements of several departments in 2018 and follow with “More Happening Ahead” — a rundown of planned items involving e-government, conservation, public safety, arts, parks, recreation, transportation, infrastructure, and economic development.
Five department heads who became members of the city’s executive team in the 2018 calendar year will also be highlighted: City Manager Adam Lenhard, Community Development Director John Willis, Chief of Police Richard Farnsworth, Communications and Marketing Director David Cordero, and Economic and Housing Development Director Shirlayne Quayle.
“We have a fantastic team at the City of St. George who bring great passion and creativity into their professions,” Pike said. “It’s a delight to feed off their energy on a day-to-day basis.”
