CEDAR CITY, UT — The beloved Southern classic “Steel Magnolias” returns to the spotlight this summer as part of the 2025 Utah Shakespeare Festival lineup. Performances run from June 21 to October 4 at the Randall L. Jones Theatre on the campus of Southern Utah University.
Written by Robert Harling and directed by Melissa Maxwell, the play captures the strength, wit, and unwavering bond of six women in Chinquapin, Louisiana. The setting: Truvy Jones’s popular beauty salon, where the likes of Ouiser, Miss Clairee, M’Lynn, and her daughter Shelby share weekly appointments—and life’s triumphs and heartbreaks.

From sharp-tongued banter to heart-wrenching tenderness, “Steel Magnolias” explores friendship, resilience, and the complicated beauty of womanhood. The show navigates themes of grief, medical challenges, and the profound love between a mother and daughter—all with humor, heart, and plenty of hairspray.
Content Advisory: While suitable for all audiences, this production includes heavier topics such as illness and loss. Audiences can expect a moving, emotionally rich experience.
Ticket Information: Children (ages 6–18) and students of any age with valid ID receive $10 off tickets. Discounts are available online or through the Ticket Office.
