In Southern Utah, quilting is more than a hobby—it’s a way to build community, share knowledge, and give back. The Dixie Quilt Guild, with more than 200 members, brings all of that together under one roof. As the new guild year begins in September, it’s the perfect time to see what this colorful group has to offer.

The guild is equal parts classroom and service hub. Members gather to learn new techniques, swap ideas, and turn stacks of fabric into finished quilts that are shared with local charities. At the center of this work is the Philanthropy group, where donated materials are sorted into kits that members can take home and complete on their own time. Projects are designed for every skill level, so whether you are a beginner or a seasoned quilter, there’s a way to contribute.
Their reach extends beyond Southern Utah. Through programs like the Hobbs Charity batting program and Sew Much Hope—a nonprofit that restores durable mid-century sewing machines for communities without reliable electricity—the guild supports initiatives that show quilting is about more than comfort. It’s about practical, creative problem-solving with a global ripple effect.
Education is another key piece. From October through June, monthly workshops bring regional and national instructors to the area, while smaller Friendship Groups keep the learning (and the laughter) going between meetings. For an extra dose of inspiration, the guild hosts its annual “Keep It Simple” retreat in Springdale, where members can stitch surrounded by the dramatic backdrop of Zion Canyon.
Curious newcomers are encouraged to dive in. The kickoff meeting for the new guild year is Saturday, September 13, at Utah Tech’s Taylor Auditorium in the Health Sciences Building. Doors open at 9:30 AM, with the program beginning at 10 AM. Visitors will find a welcoming group ready to help them thread their first needle or refine their next heirloom.

Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month, except July and August, from 10 AM to noon at Taylor Auditorium, Taylor Health Sciences Building, 1526 E. Medical Center Dr., St. George. Doors open at 9:30 AM and all are welcome.
