On Saturday, Sept. 12, from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m., some neighborhood streets near the mouth of Cedar Canyon and Main Street Park, as well as some side streets, will be closed to non-emergency traffic while runners are on the road for the Cedar City Half Marathon.
“To lessen the inconvenience when travel is necessary that morning, neighbors should follow directions from course marshals and VIP (volunteer police) staff as they may allow some vehicles access in and out of the neighborhoods when runners are not present,” said Bryan Dangerfield, Cedar City events coordinator.
The Cedar City Half Marathon course will impact East Center Street, Highland Drive, East 275 North, and portions of 200 East, 300 East, and 100 East (north of Center Street to 200 north) as well as Cedar Canyon.
With Cedar Canyon (State Route 14) being closed from Canyon Park to the Cedar Breaks turnoff at State Route 148, travelers wishing to visit Cedar Breaks, Brian Head, or Duck Creek or connecting to U.S. Route 89 that morning are asked to please use Parowan Canyon. Electronic hazard signs have been posted to notify motorists and houses have received notices of the closed streets.
