Sunset on the Square celebrates final 2018 event
Sunset on the Square will hold a season finale event Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. at Town Square Park. The event will feature a ball drop where winners will receive $1,000, an annual family pass for the Washington City Community Center, and an iPad along with other fabulous prizes.
Sunset on the Square will feature food, craft booths, prizes, and games before a sing-along version of “Beauty and the Beast.” Games will include a water balloon toss, corn hole, a ball toss, flashing light crafts, wood block karate chop, and giant lawn dice. Raffle prizes will include Taco Time gift certificates, tickets to Tuacahn productions, and books.
Community members can participate in the ball drop by making a payment for a numbered ball. Donations will go to 15 local nonprofit organizations. Participants can pay at the event, online, or by texting “balldrop” to 51555. After paying, participants’ names will automatically be matched to numbered balls in the bucket. Attendees can watch as thousands of balls are dumped by a scissor lift onto a target. First-, second-, and third-place winners will be determined by which numbered balls land directly in or closest to the target. Several runner-up prizes including gift cards, electronics, trips, and more will also be announced. Participants do not have to be present to win. A numbered ball may be purchased for $5, and five numbered balls may be purchased for $20.
“Sunset on the Square is now in its eleventh year and has always been a community favorite,” said Dawn McLain, event coordinator. “I love that the city has always been so gracious with this program, and people really respond. But I have to say that one of the best parts of the season this year is the ability for the community to come together and support local nonprofit organizations working hard to better Washington County.”
Audience members will also have the opportunity to win prizes, such as tickets to Tuacahn shows, t-Shirts, and prize bags.
