SUU and Southwest Tech announce new partnership in community education

Southern Utah University and Southwest Technical College are joining forces in offering local southern Utah residents community education courses for everyone.
In March 2018, a partnership between the two Cedar City higher education establishments was recognized when a proposal for a dual-enrollment program was announced. Through this program, participating Southwest Tech students in certificate programs will be admitted to SUU, earn university credit, and be entitled to enroll in SUU courses. Participating SUU students will be admitted to Southwest Tech and entitled to enroll in certificate programs there. If approved by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the dual enrollment partnership will begin in the fall of 2019.
In addition to dual enrollment, Southwest Tech and SUU continue to create unique partnerships that benefit and empower the community. The two schools are combining their community education offerings to provide more fun, cultural, social, and affordable educational experiences for those who love to learn. In the first partnership class schedule, due out before 2019, the entities join together in offering 75 courses for the spring session running January through March 2019.
“In sharing ideas, resources and the talents of our faculty and staff, Southwest Tech and SUU can better serve the business community and help citizens achieve their greatest potential,” said Southwest Tech President Brennan Wood. “Together, we hope to enrich the lives of all community members by promoting citizen involvement and lifelong learning opportunities.”
SUU’s contributions to the lineup include courses such as Branding Boot Camp for Marketers, Adventure Hiking: Paws and Pathways, the local favorite Southern Utah Chef cooking class, and science courses for parents and children. Southwest Tech will also offer culinary courses including Southeast Asian and Summer Grilling along with computer classes, business leadership, forklift training, video production, and many more.
