Southern Utah University theater student Brandon Scott Grayson came to SUU in 2014 with a dream to write musicals. With the help of his faculty mentor, Peter Sham, Grayson wrote “Minutes,” which premiered Jan. 28 and runs through Feb. 1 in SUU’s Auditorium Blackbox Theatre. SUU’s student-run theater company, Second Studio, is producing “Minutes,” which is told through musical vignettes that examine how time plays a part in people’s lives.
Grayson said “Minutes” was inspired by experiences from his own life.
“Almost every human experience is based off time in some way, shape or form, so to use that as a dramatic potential was very enticing to me.”
Sham said the show has something in it for everyone.
“It’s an acetic mix of different styles and different snapshots, or minutes, of people’s lives. It runs the gamut of emotions with some scenes being funny, and others being sad and moving.”
Helping Grayson bring his vision of “Minutes” to the stage is director Alec Terberg, assistant director Evangeline Stott, stage manager Sarah Bagnall, and light board operator Kayla Jensen. Grayson also serves as the production’s musical director.
The cast is comprised of Keaton Johns, Colton Needles, Christopher Whiteside, Sara Funk, Courtney McMullin, and Holly Barrick.
The show continues in the Auditorium Blackbox Theatre on Jan. 29 and Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. with a 10 p.m. performance on Jan 30. Tickets are $5 at the door. Please be advised that “Minutes” features adult language.
