THE 2025 DESERTSCAPE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS TO THE ELECTRIC THEATER AND ONCE AGAIN, IT WILL RUN ALONGSIDE THE ST. GEORGE ART FESTIVAL
The 501(C)(3) nonprofit, Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah, has just announced dates as well as early bird all-access badge sales for the 2025 Desertscape International Film Festival, which is about to embark on its 7th year. Additionally, this independent film showcase has also revealed its opening night feature.
DIFF 2025 will take place in beautiful St. George, UT from Wednesday, April 16th through Saturday, April 19th with the majority of the screenings and events taking place at the historic Electric Theater. Desertscape will, once again, coincide with the long-running St. George Art Festival and this will only add to the magic of the proceedings. This celebration of independent cinema will feature over 40 films–shorts and features–from all around the world. Multiple countries and genres will be represented throughout the festival and programmers promise a little something for everyone.
Last year’s stunning slate of films included Josh Margolin’s 2024 winner “Thelma” starring June Squibb, Peter Flynn’s affectionate ode to film collectors “Film is Dead. Long Live Film!,” H. Nelson Tracey’s bittersweet romance “Breakup Season” starring Samantha Isler and Chandler Riggs, Alex Astrella’s moving documentary short “Free Play,” and Joseph DeGolyer’s understated father/son story “Chicken Coop” just to name a precious few.
The entire 2025 lineup is expected to drop in mid-March but at press time, festival programmers were able to offer up this enticing morsel; The 2025 opening night feature will be the North Macedonian import, “DJ Ahmet” from writer/director Georgi M. Unkovski. This charming coming-of-age gem finds a 15-year-old Yurok boy escaping the pressures of his small village life through the power of electronic dance music. “DJ Ahmet” went on to win the Audience Choice and the World Cinema Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the recent Sundance Film Festival. It’s an absolute crowd-pleaser and the team at Desertscape couldn’t be any more thrilled to have it as their feature opener.

Beyond that, programmers promise a diverse slate of films from all around the globe. Additionally, Desertscape 2025 will host after parties, a live script read, industry panels, filmmaker Q&As, special guests, an awards ceremony and plenty of networking opportunities for those looking to get into the film business. Plus, plenty of art and live music courtesy of the venerable St. George Art Festival. This is to say nothing of all of the breathtaking scenic locales St. George and its nearby areas have to offer. Come for the amazing films…Stay for the beautiful sights.
Desertscape International Film Festival all-access passes have just gone on sale at a steal of an early bird price of $99 but this is a limited offer.
