A new creative spark is lighting up Cedar City. The Forge Center for the Arts, a nonprofit theatre organization led by three-time Emmy Award winner Ellen Wheeler, has officially launched—with an inspiring mission to uplift the community through joy, creativity, and connection.
Rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful gift, The Forge aims to become a welcoming home for artists, audiences, and families across Southern Utah. The organization’s long-term vision includes expanding arts education, developing multiple performance spaces, and building a reputation for excellence and innovation over the next three to five years.
“The Forge is all about bringing people together,” the founding team shared. “Through storytelling, artistry, and meaningful community engagement, we want to build something that strengthens Southern Utah and offers opportunities for everyone.”
Christmas at The Forge: A Fast-Tracked First Season
For its debut, The Forge is partnering with the Cedar Fun Center to launch Christmas at The Forge, a new holiday tradition featuring two original, family-friendly productions:
-
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, a modern twist on A Christmas Carol
-
The Star Still Shines, a heartwarming story of hope and light
Developed in record time, both shows highlight the dedication and talent of local performers, educators, volunteers, and creatives working together to bring high-quality, affordable theatre to Southern Utah families.
Led by an Emmy Award–Winning Artistic Vision
At the heart of The Forge is Ellen Wheeler, whose career spans television, film, and theatre. A hometown Southern Utah native, Wheeler brings decades of professional experience—and a deep desire to invest in her community.
“We are thrilled to have Ellen leading The Forge,” the founding members said. “Her artistic vision and love for Cedar City make her the perfect guide for this new chapter.”

Building a Regional Arts Hub
The Forge’s goals extend well beyond its inaugural season. Plans include year-round programming, a multi-stage venue, expanded classes in acting, movement, dance, and music, and a strong focus on community partnerships. The organization aims to bridge the gap between children’s theatre and professional productions, offering artistic experiences that are both accessible and inspiring.
