THE 2023 HORRORFEST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS!

October 18th-21st

– The Electric Theater –

Gather around the campfire as the HorrorFest International Film Festival–named one of the best horror film festivals in the world by Dread Central in 2022–returns to the Electric Theater for its 21st consecutive outing. Presented by the nonprofit,  Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah, this spine-tingling 4-day cinematic celebration of all things horror is the perfect way to usher in the quickly approaching Halloween season.

HorrorFest programmers have worked incredibly hard on the lineup in an effort to bring attendees a diverse mix of horror-centric titles that you won’t soon forget. While there will be higher profile films that have played the likes of legendary fests including the Sundance Film Festival, Fantasia Fest, Fright Fest, Popcorn Frights, and Beyond Fest, you can also expect plenty of titles that are brand new to the horror festival circuit.

Festivities will kick off with a terrifying shorts block followed by the opening night feature, “Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls” from famed YouTube personality, Andrew Bowser. This is a wonderfully lively throwback to the horror comedies of the 80s. Also in the mix, is “The Coffee Table,” a brutal and tense character-driven import from Spain that’s sure to leave viewers shaken. Also on the docket, is Justin Geldzahler’s “Glue Trap,” a slow-burn slice of relationship-centric terror  that plays with the conventions of the genre in a way that will challenge viewers to ask themselves; “What is horror?”

Elsewhere, the festival will explore the experimental side of horror by way of Pirie Martin’s creative low-budget indie, “Psychosis.” If anthologies are your thing, look no further than “Lore,” a  horror/comedy consisting of multiple tales of monsters, ghosts, and slashers. If you’re into quirky, be sure to check out Zach Clark’s “The Becomers,” an offbeat sci-fi comedy with faint shades of “Repo Man” and “Liquid Sky.” HorrorFest has even got you covered if you love animation by way of Zach Passero’s “The Weird Kidz,” a wonderful fusion of youth-centric 80s-inspired horror adventures and 50s monster movies. HororFest International will close out with “Where the Devil Roams” from the incredibly talented filmmaking brood known as the Adams Family. Their latest is a twisted tale of the American dream set against the backdrop of the Depression Era and if you saw their last film, 2021’s “Hellbender,” then you know that this one is not to be missed!

Beyond that, the 2023 Horror Fest International Film Festival will showcase dozens of outstanding short films and offer filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, mystery screenings, horror trivia, after-parties, an awards ceremony, and more. Additionally, you can count on a handful of wonderful special guests! Actor Jamison Newlander (“The Lost Boys,” “Bone Tomahawk,” “Waking Nightmare”) will be on hand to chat about his career via a live episode of The Cinemast Podcast with host Brandon Treadway. Also, returning HorrorFest favorite Frank Dietz will be back to host another edition of the immensely popular Scripts Gone Wild. Writer/director Justin Geldzahler will also be in attendance to talk about his new film “Glue Trap” and to head a panel called “What is Horror?” Finally, Marshall Moore will draw on his experience as a veteran location manager and discuss the importance of locations in the world of horror.
