The Stage Door Presents “Into the Woods”

A Spellbinding Summer Production at The Historic Electric Theater!
This summer, The Stage Door invites audiences on a journey Into the Woods with its enchanting production of the beloved musical by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and James Lapine (book), running June 19 through July 12 at The Electric Theater, a beautifully restored historic venue located in downtown St. George at 68 E. Tabernacle Street.
Directed by Sterling Hanks in his exciting directorial debut, alongside seasoned co-director Jalee Scott, Into the Woods masterfully intertwines the stories of classic fairy tale characters as they chase dreams, confront consequences, and discover the power of community. With musical direction by Amy Gleave and choreography by Rosa Lee White, this production promises to be a theatrical highlight of the summer.
Audiences will be captivated by a stellar cast including Mimi Knell as the mysterious Witch, Eric Humphries as the kind-hearted Baker, Ashlie Davenport as his resourceful wife, Jackson Betts as the adventurous Jack, Amanda Butler as the fiery Little Red Ridinghood, Mattea Denney as a graceful Cinderella, and Tim Merkley as her charming yet complex Prince. They are joined by many other talented community members to make this a truly unforgettable ensemble.

The musical cleverly combines the quests of familiar fairy tale characters into one sweeping narrative, beginning with a series of wishes—a child, riches, beauty, and adventure—that set them all into motion. As their paths cross, each must navigate unexpected trials that challenge their desires, values, and relationships. It’s a deeply human story told through fantasy, revealing how interconnected our choices truly are.
Behind the scenes, Stage Manager Kristen McPhie keeps the production running smoothly, while scenic designer and The Stage Door Artistic Director Josh Scott brings the enchanted forest to life with a whimsical and immersive set.
Into the Woods is a funny, heartfelt, and thought-provoking musical that explores the complexity of wishes, family, and the choices that define us—all set to Sondheim’s masterful score and Lapine’s imaginative, emotionally rich storytelling.
All performances are at 7:30 PM, with one matinee on July 5th at 2 PM. Performances will be held at The Electric Theater at 68 E. Tabernacle Street, St. George, Utah.
