Happenstance originated from and continues to endure a post-retirement curiosity involving antiques and vintage pieces coupled with an interest in art by a lifetime non-artist. A droll pastime expanded into researching the beauty and appeal of exceptional pieces, both from a historical perspective and continued contemporaneous use.
As the interest in antiques and art stirred aside the potential boredom factors of complete retirement, I discovered a unique personal compulsion…” I thoroughly enjoyed finding unique pieces!” Thus, my wife, Terry and I (Dan) have opened antique shops during the past twenty plus years to support this ‘search for unique and wonder’ by offering these items to shopping guests. Following successful shops in Yarnell AZ and Dillon MT, we opened Happenstance Antiques & Art in Fredonia AZ, a town in Northern Arizona which borders with Kanab UT. We enjoy this area with its historical townships, national parks and outdoor geographical attractions, spending the past years from 2019 to April 2025 season opening sharing our variety of wares with guests that have enjoyed, in their words, ’a pleasurable and mixed shopping experience without pressure or prod’ among historical furniture pieces, glassware and pottery from early English pubs and American households, sculptures from Europe and the US, tools from your grandfather’s and father’s eras, kitchen implements from your grandmother’s and mother’s times, old and contemporary books to include 1st editions (if not sold), unusual books from the 1930’s and comic books from the 1950’s plus more current editions, artwork both original and print presenting a variety of styles to include western, portrait, landscape, animal and historical subjects (some known artists and undiscovered artists) blended together with more contemporary collectibles currently being sought i.e. older cameras, typewriters and uranium glassware, also mentioning here saddles both usable and wall hanger and jewelry both inexpensive and expensive.

Open for the April-September season Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Monday (open Sunday for Memorial, 4th of July and Labor weekends).
