Dorothy Engelman Utah Democratic Party

The Independent

Every year at the Utah Democratic Party’s Taylor & Mayne dinner, the Party honors two Democratic activists who’ve made an incomparable difference to the Party and to the state of Utah. At the end of May, the winners of the Todd Taylor and Ed Mayne awards were announced as Dorothy Engelman and Mike McDonald. They will be honored at the Taylor and Mayne dinner on Friday, June 12, at Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City.

In a press release from the Utah Democratic Party, the Party Chair Peter Corroon said, “I can’t think of two people more deserving.”

Dorothy Engelman is the winner of the Todd Taylor award. Engelman is a fierce advocate on behalf of Utah Democrats, one who never seems to tire of paying it forward. She was elected as Chair of the Washington County Democratic Party in 2011 and stepped down in 2014 only because she decided to give back by running for office herself. Engleman currently serves as a member of the Utah Democratic Party Executive Committee.

“We are lucky to have such a talented, enthusiastic, committed activist among our ranks,” Carroon stated.

The recipient of the Ed Mayne award, Mike McDonald, has been the Chairman of the Intermountain Iron Workers Trust Fund since 1985, where he has been at the forefront of helping Union members and their families earn living wages, meet high safety standards, and have access to quality healthcare. From coordinating phone banks and sign-making, to literature distribution, fundraising, and serving as a state delegate, Mike is the epitome of a dedicated Democratic activist.

The Taylor & Mayne dinner will take place Friday, June 12, at Tracy Aviary. Tickets are $65 for individual tickets, $40 for Young Democrats, and $25 for children 17 years old and under.
