The curtain is rising on another summer of stories as the Utah Shakespeare Festival opens its 64th season, welcoming audiences to Cedar City now through October 4. Hosted on the campus of Southern Utah University, the Festival draws over 100,000 guests annually and is one of the nation’s premier destinations for repertory theatre.
Founded in 1961 by the late Fred C. Adams and his wife Barbara, the Festival was built on a vision of world-class Shakespeare in Southern Utah. “Fred will always be remembered as a passionate visionary,” says Executive Managing Director Michael Bahr. “He saw Cedar City, with its theatrical roots and stunning landscapes, as the perfect home for something extraordinary.”

This year’s lineup spans Shakespearean classics, modern musicals, comedies, and new works across three stages. At the Engelstad Shakespeare Theatre, patrons can experience Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, and As You Like It. Indoor productions at the Randall L. Jones Theatre include Steel Magnolias, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, and The Importance of Being Earnest.
In the Anes Studio Theatre, audiences can enjoy Dear Jack, Dear Louise, a touring production of Twelfth Night by London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and two new plays—one of which is Muse of Fire by Lauren M. Gunderson—during the Festival’s Words Cubed staged reading series.

“All of these productions represent the very best—and sometimes the most challenging—parts of all of us,” says Artistic Director John DiAntonio. “We’re thrilled to welcome audiences back to experience the power of live theatre.”
Beyond the stage, the Festival Experience includes backstage tours, seminars, classes, and The Greenshow—a lively, family-friendly pre-show celebration held nightly on the lawn.
Locals can enjoy deep discounts: residents of Iron, Washington, Beaver, and nearby counties receive 50% off same-day tickets. Students can purchase a $40 Student Access Pass for unlimited admissions, based on availability.
