Plein Air artist Valerie Orlemann hosts open house
By Jenna Chapman
Award-winning realist landscape artist Valerie Orlemann is set to hold an open house for her exhibit “Landscape and Light” at the Frontier Homestead Museum.
Orlemann creates breathtaking vistas of Utah’s natural wonders using oil on canvas. She has won many awards across the state. Her work has also been featured in jury-selected exhibits including the Sears Dixie Invitational, the St. George Art Festival, the Provo Freedom Festival art exhibit, the Outdoor Painters’ Society Plein Air Southwest 2009, and the Southern Utah Art Invitational.
Always looking for beauty, Orlemann finds her inspiration in the colors and landscapes that are all around Utah.
“Color grabs me first, but then I look for beautiful lines and forms that make a composition out of the colors,” Orlemann said. “I find landscapes to paint in the views I see every day, but I also go hunting for material in our amazing national parks.”
Thirty-four of her landscapes are on display through March 28, but the best time to see them is with the artist herself. Orlemann invites everyone to attend the open house, and she hopes her art can bring joy to all who view it.
“I hope my artwork might communicate the joy I feel as I focus on natural beauty,” she said. “That viewers might walk away smiling — with some of that joy to take home with them.”
The open house will take place March 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. Orlemann is providing light refreshments, and the museum is offering free admission during the open house. The museum is located at 635 N. Main St. in Cedar City. For more information call the museum at (435) 586-9290.
