Vesting America’s Police K-9s is raising money to put bulletproof and stab-resistant vests on the police K-9 units in southwest Utah. Currently, there are 10 police K-9s in Washington and Iron Counties who are working without this protection. They are sent into the most dangerous situations ahead of police officers and deserve to have these vests to protect them, giving them the best chance of survival.

Since forming late last year, Vesting America’s Police K-9s has raised the money needed to give out three of these vests to local police dogs. The vests purchased by Vesting America’s Police K-9s for police dogs are the lightest vests on the market. Manufactured by Bullet Blocker of Boston, they weigh only 2 1/2 pounds. These Kevlar vests are rated IIIa—the highest rating for a protective vest for a non-military dog. They are effective against a .44 magnum at point-blank range and a blade up to 4 inches long.

The total cost of putting these vests and other protective equipment on these 10 dogs is $7,000. Vesting America’s Police K-9s and affiliated K-9 handlers truly need the help of the St. George community in order to fulfill their mission to protect local police dogs.
