“Vistas & Visions of the Colorado Plateau” fine art exhibit opening Feb. 6
“Vistas & Visions of the Colorado Plateau,” a new collection of paintings by artist Ron Larson, will be on exhibit at the Powell Museum in Page, Arizona from Feb. 6, 2015 through Jan. 2016. The public is invited to attend the exhibit opening and artist reception on Feb. 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Powell Museum located at 6 N. Lake Powell Blvd., Page, Arizona.
The Colorado Plateau encompasses 130,000 square miles and is comprised of some of the most unique and awe-inspiring landscapes in the southwest. With over 60 national parks, monuments, wilderness areas and state parks, the Colorado Plateau’s pristine and distinct natural beauty remains safeguarded for future generations to experience.
Artist Ron Larson preserves the spirit of the wide open spaces, towering rock formations, meandering watercourses, and transitory moments of life on the Colorado Plateau in his watercolor and oil paintings. He often paints on-site surrounded by the inspiring landscape in many parks and monuments.
Ron’s newest collection of paintings depict scenes from well-known places such as Lake Powell and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Monument Valley Tribal Park, and Grand Canyon National Park, and other lesser known, but equally stunning, parts of the Colorado Plateau.
Growing up and living in Utah, Ron spent almost 60 years of life searching for places of splendor and serenity which speak to him, bringing him peace and contentment and then translating what he feels to the canvas. Ron’s paintings bring expressions of the Colorado Plateau’s marvels through visual vignettes of its space. Sometimes he uses the bold colors of oil, and sometimes the softer feel that watercolor offers, but always finds contrasts, where there are deep, dark shadows and striking reflections of light.
Inducted into the National Watercolor Society as a Signature Member in 2007, Ron’s paintings also grace the walls of private, corporate, and museum collections all over the world. He recently participated in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area’s Artist in Residence program, the Scottsdale Celebration of Fine Art in Arizona, and the Zion National Park Plein Air Invitational in Utah.
