A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, by Washington City in order to look at potential projects that may apply for funding under the Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program for the year 2016. Those who are interested in submitting a proposal for consideration may submit their projects either in writing or verbally. The meeting will include a discussion on the amount of funding available for the Community Development Block Grant for the project year, as well as the variety of projects that will be eligible for grants. In addition, previous projects funded by the program will be discussed. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Washington City Office located at 111 North 100 East.
The Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program program was initiated in 1974 and is one of the longest running programs with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Its goals are to contribute resources to communities to deal with a wide variety of particular development needs. The Small Cities Community Development Block Grant is a state-run aspect of the federal program that focuses on small local government development needs. Each state annually creates its own priorities for funding and benchmarks for proposed projects.
