In accordance with Utah Election Code UCA – 20A-3-601, Washington City will hold early voting for the municipal primary election beginning in late July and running through the first week of August. Voting will be held at the Washington City Office Building located at 111 North 100 East. Early elections are triggered when a surplus of candidates run for the limited spaces for city council seats.

Tara Pentz, the deputy recorder for Washington City, says this year there were enough candidates for such an event.

“[Early elections occur when] we have more than two people per position,” Pentz said. “Any beyond that triggers a primary election.”

This year’s election will have nine candidates vying for the three Washington City Council seats that are becoming available. Each elected council member serves a four-year term. Candidates for the election are James McFadden, C. Bradford Allen, Jean Arbuckle, Bill Hudson, Patricia Robbins, Dan Drown, Jeff Turek, Kolene F. Granger, and Troy Garth Belliston.

The current Washington City Council positions are held by Garth Nisson, Jeff Turek, Kress Staheli, Ron Truman and Thad Seegmiller. Washington City does not hold elections for all city council positions concurrently, meaning that this year’s elections will be to fill the seats currently held by outgoing council members Turek, Staheli and Truman.

Dates for the early election are as follows:

July 28 and July 29: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

July 30 and July 31: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Aug. 4 and Aug. 5: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Aug. 6 and Aug. 7: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
