The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a wind advisory for southern Utah beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, and continuing until noon on Friday, Oct. 30. The advisory is for Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, including the I-15 corridor, the St. George airport, western Washington County, Bull Valley, Pine Valley and the Beaver Dam mountains. The immediate area around St. George is not expected to be impacted.

Winds are expected to come out of the northeast at 25 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph. The winds are expected to begin around sunset peak later in the night and will subside sometime Friday morning.

The strongest effects are expected to impact road corridors that run in a west to east orientation. High profile vehicles such as semi-trailers will be most at risk. Those who are towing will also be impacted.

Wind advisories are issued whenever wind speeds are expected to exceed 31 mph, or when wind gusts in excess of 45 mph are predicted. Motorists in particular are advised to be cautious when driving in the advisory area as sudden powerful cross winds can make driving much more difficult and dangerous.
